On November 20-22 three members from the European Horizons chapter at Georgia Tech — Daniela Barrientos, Lucia Lombardo and Pedro Maddens Toscano – and Dr. Vicki Birchfield participated in the Youth Summit on the Transatlantic Digital Economy (DEYS) hosted by European Horizons in collaboration with the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. While at DEYS, the participants had their policy papers, which had been written prior the conference, criticized by experts in their fields. The students also attended several panels, including one on Cybersecurity in European Politics and one that included former Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko. Pedro also moderated a discussion with Jörgen Gren, a member of the Commissioner for the Digital Single Market’s cabinet, on Economic Growth in the Information Age. At the conclusion of the conference the students presented their finalized policy papers to all the attendees.
The three members from the European Horizons chapter at Georgia Tech also participated in a visit to the European Parliament where they participated with panels with policy expects and MEP Viviane Reding.
