Weatherly Langsett served as an intern in the United States Mission to NATO, NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium, for 12 weeks during the Spring Semester. Weatherly first visited NATO Headquarters as a part of the European Union and Transatlantic Studies Summer Program directed by Dr. Vicki Birchfield. Weatherly attributes her strong foundation in understanding NATO’s structure role in the 
international political landscape to her time in Dr. Birchfield’s program. Her previous studies on NATO allowed her to better integrate into her work during her internship experience. During her time at the U.S. Mission she worked as a junior staff analyst supporting the Director for U.S. Defense Intelligence and Director of National Intelligence Liaison to NATO. The central focus of her time at NATO was a research project assessing the U.S. Intelligence Community’s contribution to a network used by the NATO community of nations to share intelligence and operational data. The analysis she performed was a first-of-a-kind assessment which provided senior intelligence officers with vital background information to inform decisions about process enhancements to the network. She also contributed to the preparation of cables summarizing content from North Atlantic Council and NATO Military Committee meetings. During her time at NATO she was able to interact with representatives from all of the member nations and build a unique network of contacts from her experience. On her final days at the U.S. Mission to NATO she was presented with challenge coins from two of the agencies she supported during her project and the Defense Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to NATO.
